RICHLAND CENTER POLICE DEPARTMENT
Press Release
November 1, 2006
The City of Richland Center wants to remind city residents that alternate side parking begins today,
November 1st, and will run through March 31stAccording to Chief of Police John Annear, alternate side parking may be activated if the city receives two or more inches of snow, an accumulation of ice or when a substantial snowfall is forecasted. Once activated alternate side parking will be enforced for three consecutive nights between the hours of 12:01 AM and 7:00 AM to facilitate snow removal from city streets. People are urged to listen to WRCO radio (100.9 FM) or contact the police department at 647-2103 to find out if alternate side parking has been activated.
When alternate side parking is activated you must park on the odd numbered side of the street on odd numbered dates and the even side of the street on even numbered dates. Residents need to remember what the date will be between the overnight hours 12:01 am and 7:00 am. The date during these hours determines odd or even side parking. If it is snowing or a snowfall is predicted people should anticipate that alternate side parking will be activated and park on the appropriate side of the street. Residents and overnight visitors are not required to abide by alternate side parking during periods of good winter weather. Owners of vehicles in violation of alternate side parking regulations will be subject to a $10.00 parking ticket.
During a period of unusually severe winter weather, the city may declare a snow removal emergency if accumulations of snow are substantial enough to create a serious public hazard that impairs transportation, public health and safety. During a snow removal emergency, parking would be prohibited on all city streets and highways.
Residents would be required to find off-street parking for up to 72 hours or until snow-removal operations are declared completed by the Public Works Superintendent.
