Waste Pickup: (Tree Limbs, Brush, Garden Waste and Twigs)
The Richland Center Street Department will be collecting leaves, brush, lawn, and garden waste. This year's collection will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each weeks during the month of April, also May 18-20, June 22-24, July 27-29, August 24-26, September 28-30 and between October 19 - November 13, 2009. The trucks will begin their trip through the City at 7:00 AM, so you must have your brush out prior to 7:00 AM on Monday.
Brush, twigs, leaves and garden waste are all that will be collected. Yard waste will not be collected in plastic bags - it must be placed in biodegradable bags or left in an open container. The container will be left at the curb after the contents are dumped into a truck. Bags can be purchased from the City Clerk / Treasurer's Office located at 450 S. Main Street between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. You may take waste to the landfill anytime.
The brush is all chipped, so you are asked to place your brush with the butts out to the curb so that they can easily be separated from the pile and be fed into the chipper. Brush can be no larger than 6" in diameter. The homeowner must dispose of limbs larger than the 6" limit themselves. Butts larger than 6" can be taken to the Landfill, but there is a fee to dispose of it there. Most people know someone that burns wood, which would be a less costly way of disposing larger tree trunks and limbs.
Christmas Trees will be picked up January 5, 12, 19, and 26th of 2009. Place trees at the curb side the night before pickup.
ORGANIC WASTE (yard waste) RECYCLING SITE - Grass clipping cannot be placed out to the curb for pickup and cannot be blown out into the street, as grass will plug up our storm sewers. If you don't leave your grass clippings on your lawn, you may haul them to the City's compost area, located in front of the Richland Center Landfill transfer station located off from County Hwy AA.. This is an area that you can get to at all times. We ask that you empty your containers and take them with you or dispose of them in the containers provided.
For
roofing and remodeling projects we recommend that you contract with a waste
hauler to have a dumpster brought to your location. If you don't have
room on your property, you must obtain a permit in advance to place the
dumpster on the street. To obtain a $10.00 permit for seven days, you
will need to go to the City Clerk/Treasurer's office at
The City does not collect the following material and they should not be placed at the curb. If the following material is left at the curb, you will receive a notice in the mail. If the material is not removed, it will be removed at your expense: lumber, rocks, concrete, soil, sod, metal, furniture.
The following two haulers serve the City

FALL Leaf and Grass Pickup:
The City of
You are requested by the Street
Department to rake your leaves into the street and string them out along the
curb where they can be vacuumed up. Try to keep as many sticks as possible out
of the leaves, as they plug the vacuum.
Sticks, brush and garden waste
should be piled on the grass terraces where they will be collected with an open
truck. Pile the brush neatly with the butts out toward the street.
Place your garden waste in an open container or in a pile that can be forked
into a truck. Do not place anything out in a plastic bag, it will not be
taken.
Leaves will continue to be
picked up once we start until they are cleaned up or we have to get our
equipment switched over to snow removal, which is usually around November
15th.
